On Headlamps
Skilhunt H04 RC
My go-to headlamp for its quality, ease of use, and most importantly: its headband. The Skilhunt H04 RC is the headlamp I grab when I need to:
- crawl into the attic to get the Christmas decorations
- have my hands free while doing dishes when camping
- pack the car top carrier at night
- have an extra light that I can point with my head while riding my bike
My favorite things about it are:
- headband that lets you take the light on/off the headband without removing the pocket clip
- button placement on the side which makes it easy to press it while on the head (compared to the DW4’s button on the top)
- built-in charger, so you don’t need to remove the battery to recharge it; but requires proprietary cable
- magnetic tailcap
- high CRI emitter (colors come out naturally)

Sofirn SP40
I recommend this for a light to keep in the car. If you’re stranded on the side of the road somewhere, likely something’s wrong with your car, so you’ll probably need to look under the hood or at your wheels. Either way, you want your hands free.
My favorite things about it are:
- relatively cheap
- easy to get on Amazon
- magnetic tail cap so you can attach it to your open hood if you need to

It looks like the updated model is the Sofirn SP40A.
